How to use the akaya fish sticks? When you think of fish sticks, you probably think of it served with a bit of sauce and some garnishing. We will inspire you with 4 different ideas! All perfect for in your sushi restaurant. A pokebowl, handroll, maki and a inside-out roll. All made with more or less the same ingredients.

Pokebowl with colorful garnishing & nectarine salsa

This colorful poke bowl is perfect for summer. As a base we use sushi rice. For the toppings you can use:

We also add a salsa: chop a nectarine, mix this with corn, coriander, cucumber and some spicy poke sauce. This salsa will give a lot of freshness to your poke bowl!

As a protein we use the Akaya fishsticks. The fishsticks are covered in tempura batter, this gives a bit of crunch to your poke bowl.

As a final step, we add black sesame seeds to the poke bowl.

Fish stick hand rolls

With the same ingredients as the pokebowl you can make some more dishes. For example: the hand roll (temaki). Temaki Sushi is sometimes called a “hand roll” because it is made of a rolled cone of seaweed, wrapped around rice and fillings.

How to make the handroll:

Use the nori half cut.
Place the nori, the shiny side down, on your palm.

Put 1/4 cup sushi rice at a 45-degree angle to the top left corner of the nori sheet and flatten/spread it evenly.

Add some ingredients over the rice: you can use the ingredients used in the pokebowl. (Or scroll down to see all the ingrients).

Roll the bottom left corner up to the middle of the top edge of the nori to form a triangle, and continue rolling until you form a cone shape.

Put a piece of rice on the tip of the nori to secure the folds.

Fish stick inside-out roll

For the inside-out roll we will use this ingredients for the filling:

  • Akaya fish stick
  • Avocado
  • Cucumber

How to make the inside-out roll:

Place the nori sheet rough side up on the wrapped bamboo mat. Wet your hand with sesame oil and gently take a handful of rice. Spread the rice all over the nori and sprinkle some sesame seeds. Turn it over (rice side down). Place the fillings on the nori. Take the bamboo mat and use it to roll the sheet of nori.

As a final step, add some poke sauce. The poke sauce give the roll some spice.

Maki with sriracha mayo

The maki roll is easy to make. For the inside you only need the akaya fishsticks.

How to make maki:

Place your nori, shiny side down, on the bamboo rolling mat.

Cover 2/3 of the nori (from the short end) with 1/3 – 1/2 c sushi rice. You’ll want the rice layer about 1/8″ thick. If the rice is too sticky to spread easily, moisten your fingers with sesame oil before spreading.

Cut the fish sticks in half and lay them in a nice line, 1/3 of the way up the rice.

For toppings we use sriracha mayonaise, and add some spring onions and coriander.
