Takoyaki


What is Takoyaki?
Takoyaki, also called ‘octopus balls’ is one of the best known Japanese street food. The dish originally comes from Osaka. Typically, Takoyaki is filled with octopus (tako) The flour based Takoyaki batter is mixed with eggs and water or dashi (Japanese stock) and is made in a special Takoyaki pan (’yaki’ stands for this cooking method) The combination of the octopus, dashi and egg gives it a unique savory flavour.
How to serve Takoyaki?
Luckily, you don’t have to use a traditional iron cast to make the takoyaki’s.
The Takoyaki’s from Akaya or Hokkai suisan you only need to fry and add some sauce and toppings.
For the sauces you need to add the sauces Okonomi sauce and Kewpie mayonnaise.
And for toppings you use Bonito flakes (paper thin shaved dried fish), seaweed, and to give the dish some freshness: Green onions.
